Okay.. why English?

What's up with English?Why we have to learn it?English must be learned as whole not only the structures but we have to be able to use it in unrehearsed context which means we are able to use it in our everyday life.

Here is 5 major reason why it is IMPORTANT to learn English.

1.English as an International Language

English ranked fourth in the world's most spoken language across the globe.If based on its sheer numbers of speakers English is the most spoken language in the world.Here is some of the list of English speaking countries;

• Canada
• Singapore
• Zimbabwe
• Brunei
• Malawi and etc.

As English is widely spoken and used,many countries claim English as their official language or second official language.There are countries that have two national language at a time like Singapore.They could not deny the importance of English as a medium for interaction globally so they choose to have Malay and English as their national language.Spoken globally,English is the medium that traders and politicians from two or more different countries do their collaboration in bussiness and many other matter.

2.Digital Age

Now the world is now evolving around technologies.Almost everywhere you go you have to deal with technology.Applications and softwares used English as their mode of language.Even the websites uses English as their language to engage with the users.English act as the latest-version of language for not only websites but peer-to-peer and social networks like Facebook and Twitter.Even manuals and guidelines for applications and gadgets is made in English first before being made available in other foreign languages.

3.Higher learning

Education nowadays used English as their medium of instructions.Many higher educational instituitions like University Of Harvard,Cambridge and of Great Britain or any in United States would demand their students to have capabilities in English.For foreign students who want to further their studies in any of the universities they have to sit for International Language test like IELTS (INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEST SYSTEM) ,TOEFL ( TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE) or MUET for Malaysian students who want to further their degree in any courses.Materials for the students like journals and references are available mainly in English.

4.Anglo Saxon Influence

The influence of the United States and Great Britain on political affairs and international relations for the past 100 years has ensured the proliferation and acceptance of English as the primary spoken language in many countries.English is accepted in Malaysia also due to the 400 years of British colonialization. The spread of English entertainments and styles also contributes to the primacy of English language.International diplomacy and global affairs can be better understood by all leaders from the G8 countries ,Germany, Japan, France, South Korea, Brazil, Italy, and Russia when they all understand English.

5.Job Opportunities

English speaking skills has now become the first thing that an employer would seek in the qualification of a person during the interview.This indicate that knowing English opens job and employment opportunities in many countries and markets. Agencies and multilateral instituitions in the four United Nation cities of New York, Vienna, The Hague and Geneva recruit professionals with multilingual skills but also expect the candidates to have good English-speaking skills.50-plus countries that were former British colonies or dependencies, also offers numerous employment opportunities to those who understand and communicate in English.
